Self-esteem refers to a person’s overall sense of self-worth or personal value. It plays a significant role in how children interact with the world around them. A child with healthy self-esteem is more likely to take risks, try new things, and engage positively with peers. Self-esteem is not something we are born with. It needs to be learned and cultivated.
In my latest workshop on Self-esteem there was one child that began the workshop very shy and withdrawn. The first night she didn't participate, only watched and decorated her journal. Week two was the same. Driving home that evening I was wondering will I reach her?
The third week was my class on Honoring Your Uniqueness. The students each write poems about who they are, what makes them special and then they draw a self portrait. Quiet chatting and soft music played as the kids wrote and created their self portrait. I watched as the quiet, with drawn student reached over for a colored pencil. Deep inside myself I said, "Yesssss! Progress." Before we left for the evening I always ask if anyone would like to share, some did some said, "pass." And on this night the student shared! It was beautiful. And what made it so awesome was the support the others gave to her. They all stated "WOW", when they heard about what made this person unique. She walked out of the room much happier and very EMPOWERED.
It was so magical for me to witness. I love being able to guide, inspire, & EMPOWER these kiddos. They put in the work and come out of these workshops with tools to take on their world.
Cheers to REVIN UP!
